SAVE THE ASTOR!

The Astor Theatre is a grand art deco film palace situated in Melbourne, Australia and is the last of its kind in continuous operation in Australia. Showing archival 35mm prints and super rare 70mm prints of classics and cult favorites (as well as home to the most advanced theatrical digital projector in Australia), The Astor has run for over 75 years. A staff member from 2001 until 2007, Andrew continues working for The Astor in New York by way of running their social media, designing the top of the iconic calendar of movies, running their e-news and laying out classic style day bill posters of upcoming events.

The Astor is one of two completely independent theaters left in Melbourne (once home to dozens), and the last to continually screen Double Feature bills and classic movies as they were meant to be seen. It’s future is uncertain after 2015 (when its lease runs out) as its current landlord may see it shut down to the public after almost a century for its own private use (meaning the historic interior will be gutted and turned into God knows what).

Visit their website at www.astortheatre.net.au and join The Friends of The Astor to ensure this movie icon remains open for generations to come. Melbourne, as well as the world, has lost TOO MUCH of it’s cinema history. Enough is enough!
