NY Comic Con is, like other comic cons around the U.S, is a mecca for anyone into comics, movies and popular culture. New movies are announced that precede a year of major promotion, comic book creator heroes appear, massive panels are put together, and the range of things available to buy will put you in credit card debt for a considerable amount of time. Thousands and thousands of people descend on the Javitz Centre on New York’s west side in a sea of elaborate costumes. The cos-play (a term coined by merging costume and play) is a major part of the experience, with a high level of detail and effort going into many outfits. I took my big old film camera over there and snapped a bunch of exceptional outfits, a selection is shown here (click Continue Reading or the cover image to see them all). (more…)
Portraits at Comic Con
1 MayThe Creators Project
2 Nov2011′s Creators Project took over the space under the Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn combining art and live music. Last years event at Milk Studios was a bit more of a raucous affair with more upbeat bands and a tighter environment as opposed to this years spread out set up, which encouraged you to really walk around and explore. For a free gig you got Florence and The Machine, Atlas Sound, Queen Sea Big Shark, Aesop Rocky (who tried ever so hard to be as obnoxious as Odd Future), Justice, Four Tet and a few others. It was bloody cold but an overly fun day. And you’ve probably seen that big cube uploaded a million times already as it attracted cell phone cameras to it like flies. After about 10 hours on my feet, I put my feet up at home for ten minutes when dropping my camera home, to get set to party on – and woke up 12 hours later in all my clothes. Ah well.. (more…)
The last days of Summer
19 OctOr so it felt. A never ending downpour was unleashed upon the All Points West festival putting punters ankle deep in mud. There was NO-WHERE to avoid the sludge. But in the end isn’t this what a rick festival is all about? Too see the artist shots (Coldplay, Crystal Castles, Jay Z, etc) visit my website www.andrewboylephotography.com in the live music section. But this one sums up the soggy atmopshere of the day…

M.J’s Birthday
19 OctAt the end of August Micheal Jackon would have been 51, so Spike Lee threw a huge celebration in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. About 10,000 people turned up to dance, dress up in Jackson-centric costumes (ranging from Thriller Zombies, The Wiz, plenty of white gloves and trademark hats) and party all day. The kids were probably the most memorable, whose parents obviously went all out on them but they seemed to be very into it. A few of my faves (all shot on medium format film)..
